Don't Be Authentic
Advanced Typography
Fall 2025
This project imagines a pop up website that appears when someone is attempting to download or create an AI typeface that either encourages or discourages them to continue. I chose to take a more sarcastic approach. My site encourages the use of AI fonts in a way that highlights their flaws. AI has become increasingly integrated into the design industry in recent years, and it seems as though there isn’t much time to stop to think about the potential harm it could cause.
Process
Concept
I started by creating wireframes that would outline the flow of the website. I then revised these based on peer feedback to more effectively emphasize the sarcastic attitude of my site. These edits included making the hero sections comically large to draw attention and adding a “do not click” button at the bottom of the first page that led to the second page. The first page is intended to be an extreme exaggeration of how I perceive the attitude some people have towards the future of AI integration. The “do not click” button on the first page will lead you to a second page that displays human made type alternatives.

Style Guide
After developing my wireframes and wire-framing my site, I started mapping out the style guide to keep the colors, fonts and themes consistent. The visual system for this project was designed to reinforce the site’s sarcastic, critical tone toward AI-generated type. I leaned into the deliberately uncanny aesthetic by using uncomfortable type spacing and sizing. The morphing gradients and blurred button interactions reinforce the sense of instability and visual ambiguity that AI creates.
